Waldo Tobler GIScience Prize

The prize has been created to encourage scientific advancement in the disciplines of Geoinformatics and/or Geographic Information Science and takes its name from Waldo Tobler, professor emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The prize will be awarded to an individual who has made outstanding and sustained contributions to the disciplines of Geoinformatics or Geographic Information Science and has advanced research in those fields significantly. Qualifications should include achievements in research as well as in teaching. There are no restrictions concerning the nationality of the recipient.

Recipients are chosen by the Waldo Tobler Prize Committee.

Recipients receive a plaque honoring their key achievements as well as a published citation and are invited to deliver a lecture at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

  • List of the nominee’s publications

Self-nominations cannot be accepted, additional letters of recommendation are encouraged.
