Bader Award for the history of the Natural Sciences

Applications are invited from young scientists working on the history of the natural sciences (preferably with a focus on the development of concepts and ideas) who submit a pilot project which has been developed as preparation for a doctoral thesis or a research project.
Natural scientists and historians should be involved in the supervision of the dissertation or in the development of the research project.

The work submitted may not be already complete; (final) funding for a current project is not possible.

Successful realisation should be demonstrated one year after approval at the latest, via a talk before the awards committee or a fully developed project proposal and/or a publication on the topic.

Selection Procedure

Prize winners are decided by the General Assembly of the OeAW at the recommendation of an awards committee on the basis of international peer review and a hearing of the best-ranking candidates.

Application Documents

• Tabular CV and list of publications
• Letter of recommendation from doctoral supervisor or a scholar
• Submission of a research plan for use of the prize money
• Exposé of the research project (ca. 5–10 pages)
  The following points must be covered:
  -   general aims and detailed presentation of the problem
  -   project plan including methodology
  -   bibliography

The completed documents are to be uploaded via the online form. Fill in the online form and upload the documents in 1 PDF file. The individual files may not exceed 10 MB. The file is to be given the following name:

Application_Surname.pdf  (i.e. application documents)

Afterwards, you will receive a document that you will have to print and sign. Return a scan of the signed form in PDF format (single file) as an attachment to a reply to the received email (click reply button). IMPORTANT: The default subject and recipient must not be changed.

Processing

Upon receipt of your application, we will check that it is complete and meets the formal criteria and it will then be entered into the database of the Department of Fellowships and Awards.

Once the application has been checked for completeness, the applicant will receive confirmation by email.
