ATHENS

[Fellowships of the Austrian Archaeological Institute in Athens]

Selection

The selection process for an ATHENS Fellowship of the Austrian Academy of Sciences takes approx. two to three months.

The members of the awarding committee are experts nominated by the OeAW. Fellowships are awarded on the basis of comparative assessment of applications by the committee members; external reviews can also be obtained.

If applications are considered by persons to whom individual committee members have a close professional or private relationship, those committee members will not take part in the decision-making process.

Significant selection criteria are the applicants’ academic qualifications, the scholarly quality of the research project and demonstration of the necessity of the research stay in Athens for the project’s completion.

There is no entitlement to a fellowship. The committee’s decision is final.

Information for applications

As a rule, the committee convenes two to three months after the submission deadline to decide on to whom to award a fellowship. Applicants are informed of the committee’s decision in writing.
