Application

To apply for a Chemical Monthly Fellowship, applicants must complete the following steps:

1. Read the general guidelines
2. Complete the online form
3. Prepare documents
4. Submit documents

General Guidelines
 

Language of application

Applications can be submitted in German or English.

Subsequent alterations

It is not possible to alter the application or to provide missing documents after submission. Only applications that fulfil the formal criteria will be accepted for review.

Upon receipt of the application, the applicant’s data are entered into the database of the Department of Fellowships and Awards.

Application Documents

• Tabular CV incl. list of publications
• Letter of motivation (max. 1 page), incl. justification for applying
• Copy of approval of the topic of the PhD thesis
• Statement by the PhD thesis supervisor
  with respect to the applicant’s qualification, the expected completion and on previous financing of the thesis
• Invitation from the host institution (if a stay abroad is planned)
• Proof of previous university qualifications 
  (i.e. copy of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificates and certification (Sammelzeugnis) of prior progress made in PhD studies)

Project Documents

• Abstract of the PhD thesis
• Detailed research proposal (10–15 pages)
  The following points must be covered:
  • Outline of the theoretical foundations and research question(s) including details of prior preparatory work
  • Detailed timetable and work plan for the requested funding period
  • Explanation of the necessity for the stay abroad within the framework of the fellowship (if planned)

SUBMITTING DOCUMENTS

The completed documents are to be uploaded via the online form.
Afterwards, you will receive a document that you will have to print and sign. Return a scan of the signed form in PDF format (single file) as an attachment to a reply to the received email (click reply button).
IMPORTANT: The default subject and recipient must not be changed.

Submission via the online form

Fill in the online form and upload the documents as a total of 2 PDF files.

Protected files will not be accepted. The individual files may not exceed 3 MB.
The files are to be given the following names:

• Application_Surname.pdf  (i.e. application documents) 
• Project expose_Surname.pdf  (i.e. Abstract and project proposal) 

Processing

Upon receipt of your application, we will check that it is complete and meets the formal criteria and it will then be entered into the database of the Department of Fellowships and Awards with a project number (A-number).

Once the project has been checked for completeness, the applicant will receive confirmation by email.
