Selection

The selection process for a Chemical Monthly Fellowship takes approximately two months.

The fellowships are awarded by the Chemical Monthly Fellowship awarding committee, whose members are nominated by the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Gesellschaft Österreichischer Chemiker (GÖCH). Fellowships are awarded on the basis of comparative assessment of applications by the committee members; external reviewers can also be consulted.

If applications are considered by persons to whom individual committee members have a close professional or private relationship, those committee members will not take part in the decision-making process.

Significant selection criteria are the applicants’ academic qualifications, the scholarly quality of the doctoral thesis project and, where applicable, demonstration of the necessity of the research stay abroad for the project’s completion.

The committee’s decision is final.

Information for applicants

As a rule, the awarding committee convenes in May/June to decide on to whom to award a fellowship.  Applicants are informed of the committee’s decision in writing.
