Objective
The fellowships are intended for the completion of a doctoral thesis in the fields of humanities, cultural studies and social sciences at a university in Austria.
Target group
Young, highly qualified doctoral candidates in all fields of humanities, cultural studies and social sciences are invited to apply, who are pursuing their doctoral studies at a university in Austria.
Applicants must have started their doctoral or PhD studies no more than three years ago (deadline is the submission date) and are not expected to need more than another twelve months to complete their doctoral thesis.
In the case of a cumulative doctorate, the publication obligation (in accordance with the applicable doctoral degree regulations) must already have been fulfilled to the extent that the dissertation can be completed during the funding period.
Exceptions
Exceptions to this rule can be made in the case of proof of care responsibilities, illness or disability; a maximum of three additional years can be credited. Exceptions must be clarified by consulting the Department of Fellowships & Awards of the OeAW before the application is submitted.
Compliance with the guidelines for good scientific practice
When drafting the application, the program statutes of the Mannagetta Fellowships and the guidelines of good scientific practice (https://oeawi.at/en/guidelines/) must be observed.
By signing the online application form for the Mannagetta Fellowship Program, applicants confirm that they have written the submitted project proposal independently.
Duration of the Fellowship
Fellowships are awarded for a period of eight to twelve months and must be started within three months of notification of the grant.
Exceptions to this rule due to unforeseeable personal or family circumstances are possible, but require the submission of appropriate evidence.
If the dissertation is submitted for review before the end of the funding period, the remaining time of the funding period can be used for the preparation of publications.
Amount of the Fellowship
The amount of the fellowship is 25.000,- Euro (super gross).
The fellowship is intended to help cover living expenses. Further costs, such as travel or printing allowances, cannot be applied for.
In the event of self-inflicted non-compliance with the fellowship conditions, the funding amount must be repaid.
Disbursement of the fellowship for a period of time prior to actual commencement is not provided for.
Conditions
The applicants are at liberty to also apply to other funding agencies. Such applications and information about their outcome must however be reported in writing to the Department for Fellowships and Awards of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
There is not entitlement to the award of a fellowship. Legal Recourse is excluded.
Achievement of objectives
A copy of the completed dissertation as well as proof that the dissertation was submitted for review must be submitted no later than three months after the end of the funding period.
All publications resulting from the funding must include the note "funded within the framework of a Mannagetta Fellowship of the OeAW" or "funded within the Mannagetta Fellowship Program of the OeAW".
Legal position
The Austrian Academy of Sciences has no influence on the content and organization of the dissertation project. The criterion for funding is the fulfillment of the exposé prepared by the recipient of the fellowship.
The Austrian Academy of Sciences does not acquire any rights to the results of the research work through the payment of the fellowship, nor does it exert any influence on the type of cooperation of the recipient(s) with research institutions and research groups.
