The Ignaz L. Lieben Award is given for outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of life sciences, chemistry or physics.
Alternating calls: In 2025, applications in life sciences will be accepted.
Researchers are invited to apply who
The Austrian Academy of Sciences and the academies of the above-mentioned countries can nominate suitable candidates; however, full members of an academy of sciences cannot apply and cannot be nominated.
Re-application for the award is permitted after two years have passed.
Selection process
The award winner is decided by the General Assembly of the OeAW at the recommendation of an awards committee on the basis of international peer review.

Processing
Upon receipt of your application, we will check that it is complete and meets the formal criteria and it will then be entered into the database of the Department of Fellowships and Awards.
Once the application has been checked for completeness, the applicant will receive confirmation by email.
