Edward Zakarian Award

The award, established in memory of Edward Zakarian, recognizes outstanding doctoral dissertations in the fields of Armenology and Iranian Studies written and completed at a university in Europe.

Dissertations may be submitted from all fields of Armenology and Iranian Studies, i.e., from areas of the humanities and cultural studies as well as political science, law, and sociology.

Applications are invited from highly qualified scholars who have completed their doctoral studies no more than 2 years prior to the submission date and have done so in a member state of the European Union or at a university in Armenia, the United Kingdom, Iran, Switzerland, or Turkey.

The prize is awarded every three years and is endowed with 4,000 euros.

Selection Process

Review and selection is carried out by an independent jury of experts nominated by the ÖAW on the basis of the reviews of the dissertation.

For the complete application, application documents and the doctoral thesis (format: PDF) must be submitted.

Submitting the Documents

ONLINE FORM

Fill out the online form and upload the documents in a total of two PDF files. The size of each file must not exceed 10 MB. Protected files will not be accepted.

Afterwards, you will receive a PDF document with your information by e-mail. Please print this document, sign it, return a scan of the signed form in PDF format in a single file as an attachment to a reply to the email received (click on reply button).

IMPORTANT: The given subject and recipient must not be changed.

Processing

Upon receipt of your application, we will check that it is complete and meets the formal criteria and it will then be entered into the database of the Department of Fellowships and Awards.

Once the application has been checked for completeness, the applicant will receive confirmation by email.
