The Roland Atefie Award recognises an outstanding doctoral thesis in the fields of philosophy, theology or indology written at an Austrian university no more than two years before the date of submission.
Preference is given to candidates whose theses have already been published or accepted for publication by a publishing house.
Applicants do not have to hold Austrian citizenship.
Prize winners are decided by an awards committee set up by the OeAW. Decisions are reached on the basis of the panel’s own expertise and if necessary external reviews.
