The Ignaz L. Lieben Award is given to scientists for outstanding achievements in the fields of molecular biology, chemistry or physics.
Applications are invited from scientists under 40 (the age limit is raised by a maximum of 4 years for periods of childcare) who have completed their doctorate, can demonstrate outstanding work in their field and have worked as scientists without interruption during the last 3 years (calculated by submission date) in one of the following countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina; Croatia; Slovakia; Slovenia; the Czech Republic; Hungary; or Austria.
The Austrian Academy of Sciences and the academies of the above countries may nominate suitable candidates; full Members of an academy of sciences may neither apply nor be nominated.
Re-application for the award is permitted after two years have passed.
The prize winner is decided by the General Assembly of the OeAW at the recommendation of an awards committee on the basis of international peer review.
