The Gustav Figdor Award for Law, Social Sciences and Economics recognises scholars under 40 who have produced outstanding scholarly works in the fields of jurisprudence and legal theory, the social sciences and economics.
In even years applications are accepted from the fields of the social sciences and economics.
In odd years applications are accepted from the fields of jurisprudence and legal theory.
Applications are invited from scholars from the fields of jurisprudence and legal theory who are no older than 40 years and submit their doctoral thesis and at least one additional publication finished no more than two years before the date of submission. Preference is given to candidates whose scholarly works have already been published or accepted for publication by a publishing house (peer review).
Prize winners are decided by an awards committee whose members are nominated by the Division of Humanities and the Social Sciences of the OeAW. Decisions are made on the basis of the panel’s own expertise and if necessary external reviews.
